Phoenix Fashion Week the leading fashion industry event in the Southwest has arrived and so has sustainable fashion. The mission of Phoenix Fashion Week is to bridge national and international designers with retailers, boutiques, fashionistas and top fashion media globally.
Dedicated to pushing Arizona fashion forward with fashion, education and community; this year they are highlighting sustainability: the fashion industry’s latest trend and important part of the industry. Sustainable fashion is a movement and process of fostering change to fashion products and the fashion system towards greater ecological integrity and social justice. Sustainable fashion concerns more than addressing fashion textiles or products. It comprises addressing the whole system of fashion.
In partnership with Goodwill of Arizona, they will announce winners of the Little Black Dress Upcycling Challenge, host a panel discussion with sustainability experts, and include sustainable fashion designers gracing the runway.
Recently, I met up with Laura Madden for a personal branding photoshoot to highlight her platform of sustainable fashion. Unless she's partnering with a sustainable brand, a majority of the content she wears and posts on social media is styled in secondhand finds. She shares that openly to make a point and to start a conversation about choosing more sustainable fashion, consumerism and reducing waste from the fashion industry. She hopes to seduce you into making more sustainable choices and encourage you to be conscious of who and where you’re buying from.
